Broken Vessel Pottery

BVP

BVP (short for Broken Vessel Pottery) is how we sign our pottery. Our friends and family know that BVP stands for Broken Vessel Pottery but we may have people that see a piece of our pottery and don't know us. Obviously, they wouldn't know how to find us or more of our pottery by seeing BVP on the bottom. Hopefully this page will help.

We are often asked where we got our name or if it has any real meaning. The name is full of meaning for us.

On the lighter side, it's what we have a lot of around here when we are training new employees (broken vessels of pottery), but that's just part of learning and learning is essential to quality handcrafted pottery.

On a serious note, it has a spiritual meaning for us. Cathy and I are Christians and we are so grateful for what Jesus has done and continues to do for us.

The Old Testament book of Isaiah refers to Jesus as "The Suffering Servant" and says,

53:3-5 "We despised him and rejected him; he endured suffering and pain. No one would even look at him- we ignored him as if he were nothing. But he endured the suffering that should have been ours, the pain we should have borne. All the while we thought that his suffering was punishment sent by God. But because of our sins he was wounded, beaten because of the evil we did. We are healed by the punishment he suffered, made whole by the blows he received."

In I Corinthians, Paul shares the event known as the Lord's Supper.

11:23&24 "For I have received of the Lord that which also I delivered unto you, That the Lord Jesus the same night in which he was betrayed took bread: and when he had given thanks, he brake it and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me."

Around 700 years before Jesus was born, Isaiah prophesied that Jesus would suffer and die for my rebellion against God. The night before his arrest and crucifixion Jesus shared the same prophesy with his disciples.

He was broken for me.

He chose to die for me and you. Thank God that is not the end of the story. Jesus rose from the grave three days later and now intercedes for us with God the Father. I am forgiven because he became a "Broken Vessel" in my place.
